The built environment serves as the stage to many architectural interventions and video productions we work on. Whether it’s residential developments, corporate establishments or community driven projects like schools etc. the devil is in the details, and this is what we emphasize through photography and video production. We take great care in understanding these industries/spaces before documenting them in order to create narratives that are honest to the architecture and the viewer. Once we’re clear on the story, we start shooting. Using the latest cameras and equipment we design and execute creative architecture video productions that include aerial drone videography, photogrammetry, 3D scanning and photography. Between the ruin of the 1920 Anazaal and the new wind turbine is this piece of architecture that has almost become part of the landscape. The school itself forms the link between the past and the future.

Located within the Breede River Valley at the foothills of the Waaihoek Mountain Range, this is Botha’s Halte Primary School. The high-tech facility was built to serve and educate rural communities around the Western Cape. This environmentally conscious design includes solar panels on the roof, a wind turbine to generate power for audio visual equipment in the discovery center. A large water tank underneath the building stores rainwater as it’s caught. The water is then used to irrigate the orchard, vegetable garden and landscape that is all interwoven into the structural fabric of the building.

This was a very special project for us. It’s a family retreat designed by Swansilva Architecture with some help from our creative director, Marcel Swanepoel. The house was initially conceived as two boxes placed on top of each other forming a private courtyard on the one side while enhancing the views to the other. Features include passive climate control and multi-functional open-plan living areas constructed from locally produced sustainable low-cost materials. It also boasts a fynbos roof garden, which the main bedroom walks out onto, enhancing the view of the mountains by seemingly integrating the building with the natural landscape. The story of Clifton Terraces by SAOTA was told from the perspective of two women describing their ideal living situations. The video production was completed while this construction was still in progress so we used 3D animation to bring the building to life.
